Maddy’s song ‘Mighty Maddy‘ will be performed by a combined choir of more than 700 students in this year’s Cantabile Music Festival on Monday 15 September 2025 in the Concert Gallery of the Sydney Opera House.
The song was written by 9 year old Madeline Suy who was a student at Haberfield Public School where the artistic director of the Cantabile Music Festival David Collins-White teaches. Maddy lived a very full, colourful and musical life which was tragically cut short on May 19 2024 after her courageous battle with childhood brain cancer. Despite her prognosis, she faced the challenge with bravery and positivity. She advocated for those who could not and wanted to leave a legacy of love and hope for those who are able to inspire and create and contribute. Before she passed away she asked if a choir version could be performed and tonight her wish is granted. Attending the performance are members of the Suy family and friends.
Tickets will be on sale from 15 August 2025 on the Sydney Opera House website
Maddy’s song was played by the choir. You can listen to the Silent Warrior’s Episode with David Colins-White, who was the Artistic Director of the Cantabile Music Festival.
